The Scarcity Mindset

Let’s start by raising our hands and telling how many times our parents said to us, “Money doesn’t grow on trees!”

If I’m being honest, I heard that more times than I could count when I was growing up. And what that meant to me was that there was never enough.

I wasn’t able to do many of the extra-curricular activities I wanted to do because money doesn’t grow on trees.

What I have discovered is that we tend to carry these things from childhood right on into adulthood.

The saying, “Money doesn’t grow on trees”, comes from a certain mindset. It’s called a scarcity mindset. It’s the idea of never having enough or there never being enough.

This scarcity mindset finds its fulfillment when we hit our young adult years. In your early twenties, it’s easy to feel like there is never enough when you are trying to get established in a career and you’re bringing home a starting salary.



The Abundance Mindset

Changing your mindset is not an easy thing to do. It takes tons of internal and emotional work to be able to let those thoughts and beliefs go and take on new ideas and beliefs.

What is the opposite of a scarcity mindset?

It’s an abundance mindset. It’s believing that there is a limitless supply of money. That there can not only be enough, but actually more than enough.

How Do You Attract Money?

Let’s think about this question-

What is money attracted to? Where does all the money go?

You know that there is more than enough money and you don’t have to tell yourself that money doesn’t grow on trees, but where is that money?

Where is it going and what is it attracted to?

If you’re thinking that money is attracted to money, you would be right. It’s true that like is attracted to like. But think deeper on this. How can you attract money? How can anybody attract money?

By solving problems.

Solving Problems Attracts Money

Businesses pay people to solve their problems.

Let’s think of some examples. Businesses pay –

  • Accountants to handle the money and taxes
  • Consultants to leverage their strategies
  • Marketers to handle their publicity
  • HR people to handle their employees

If you’ve left your 9-5 and you’re trying to scale your business, keep in the forefront of your mind that you have to solve problems in order to attract money.

What Problem Can You Solve?



When you link this idea of problem-solving with the abundance mindset, you can see that there are more than enough businesses out there with problems that need solving.


Which problem will you solve?


The key to attracting more money for your business is to go out and find the problems you are going to solve.


My business solves a marketing problem for several of my clients. They need someone to help them market their businesses on social media and that’s my specialty.


I have clients who need a professional website built and since I have the skills to do that, I can solve their problem.


Some of my clients need to have their email automation set up. I have the skills to do so and I am able to solve that problem for them.


And I get paid for all of these things.


I went out and found several problems that I can solve and I built a business around those skills.

You can do the same thing. Get your mindset in the right place, a place of abundance. Realize and believe that there is enough money to go around.


There is enough for you and for me and for anybody else who believes it.


Then find the problem that you have the skills to solve and go out there and do it!
